Sagamok Anishnawbek and AIRmarket Sign Landmark Agreement to Advance Drone Innovation and Legislative Reform

SAGAMOK ANISHNAWBEK, ON – Sagamok Anishnawbek and AIRmarket are proud to announce a strategic partnership to advance drone technology and airspace integration, with a focus on Beyond Visual Line of Sight (BVLOS) operations.

Signed on May 1, 2025, this agreement marks a key step toward Indigenous-led innovation in Canada’s evolving drone landscape.

Grounded in Anishinaabe values and environmental stewardship, the partnership establishes a co-development framework to explore drone applications across the Robinson-Huron Treaty territory. Together, the partners will pursue initiatives in infrastructure monitoring, emergency response, and environmental protection—all while building community capacity in training, employment, and sustainable development.

“This partnership represents an opportunity to shape emerging technologies in ways that respect and reflect our sovereignty, priorities, and vision for the future,” said Gimaa Angus Toulouse, Chief of Sagamok Anishnawbek.

AIRmarket’s CEO Lindsay Mohr added:

“We’re honoured to work with Sagamok Anishnawbek. Together, we’re building a foundation for advanced drone operations that serve both local needs and national airspace objectives—while upholding Indigenous values and community-led priorities.”

Mamaweswen, the North Shore Tribal Council’s Emergency Management Coordinator, Sonya Cloutier, stated that it’s a major step forward and, “it has a wide array of applications including enhancing emergency management capacities such as visually monitoring emerging incidents like floods, fires, and other threats to the community.”

This collaboration sets a new standard for inclusive and responsible drone integration in Canada, placing Indigenous leadership at the heart of technological innovation and legislative reform.
